Offense:

Fumbles, INT's and a Safety. Otherwise there was some real potential shown last night. 490 yds of offense is not shabby. Fighting back, and almost putting the game into OT is great.

QB's:
Moevao had 404 yds of passing against Stanford, which is great.

But threw 2 INT's and one Safety. 3 turnovers.

Yards per pass was 7.5, which is good.

62% pass completion is ok. Not good.

Moevao managed six drives of over 50 yards and three over 70, including a two-minute drill before the half that went 80 yards for a touchdown. That is very good.

RB's:
Quizz Rodgers had 54 yds on 11 carries. Not bad.

McCants had a whopping 11 yds on 4 carries. Not Good

WR's:
Everyone had a great game until the end. Heartbreaking.

TE's:
Reese had 1 catch for 3 yds. These guys were none existent except for false start penalties. Very weak.

O-Line:
As a group the offense did produce 404 yds of passing and 86 yds of rushing, but there were mistakes galore and penalties. But given the patch work unit OSU has, they did a good job.

Defense:
24 players made at least one tackle. Which is awesome.

2 sacks, 6 TFL's is okay.

201 yds rushing and a career night by Gerhart is not good. Penn St will have horses who run just as hard.

But, three runs were over 40 yards. Big plays hurt. The defense swarmed for the most part.

No turnovers is weak too. Hopefully the return of Al "The Hitman" Afalava will change that.

D-Line:
210 yds rushing is unacceptable. Gerhart accounted for 147 of those yds, and he could have had more if he had got the ball more often. He looked unstoppable.

LB's:
Missed tackles led to HUGE runs by Gerhart. His avg per carry was 7.7 yds. Second for Stanford was Kimble with 2.7 yds per carry. Pass interference penalties hurt, but otherwise these guys laid some big hits and swarmed the ball for 4 qtrs.

DB's:
91 yds passing for Stanford is good. 0 INT's is not. Multiple pass interference penalties is not good either. Run defense was not good, the DB's took bad angles on Gerhart and got burnt.

Punter:
27 yds per punt is pathetic. Being the cause of partially blocked punt is not good. Enuff said.

Kicker:
2 for 2 on FG's and 2 for 2 on PAT's is solid.

Coaching:
0-1 going into Penn St is not good. But it's not the end of the world either.

OSU BEAVER FOOTBALL BLOG FINAL OP/ED ON THE STANFORD GAME:

We are young and need time to gel. The skill players on both sides of the ball looked extremely fast. Our WR's are among the best in Pac-10. The defense was close to having a great game. The offense looked great in spots, and looked horrible in others. A INT/TD and the Safety were the difference in the game.

2 plays. Only 2 plays.......

Look out Penn St, the Beavers are going to bring it.

Comeback thwarted

The Beaver's showed heart and almost tied the game in the final seconds. Unfortunetly Darrell Catchings tried to hard on a great catch at the 5 yd line, and fumbled the ball into the endzone.

It was truly heartbreaking. Had Darrell just covered the ball and went out of bounds the Beavers would have had first and goal on the 3 yd line.

Momentum was with the Beavers. Really a bummer. Final score 36-28 Stanford.

Game Over

Moevao threw his second INT, this time it went for a touchdown.

36-20 Stanford.

This game is over.

My last comments:

OSU had no running game
OSU had no run defense
OSU had inconsistent QB and O-Line play
OSU had too many sloppy tackles on defense

Turnovers are always a killer.

Kudo's to Stanford for playing a great game.

29-20 Stanford

The Beaver's keep blowing opportunity after opportunity to put down a very good Stanford team.

A safety and pick are the difference.

Gerhart is absolutely killing the Beaver's. Stanford is milking the clock.

This doesn't look good.

OSU in control

OSU's offense looks unreal. Moevao is looking good. Maybe I was too hard on him.

Our RB's and WR's are really looking fast and athletic.

We are wearing down Stanford's defense......8 min left

Crazy 2 minutes

Stanford's FB is eating up the Beavers defense. Gebhart??? WTF?

Even weirder, OSU's offense marches down the field in shotgun formation, no timeouts, and SCORES!!!!

Morales had 3 catches leading up to a TD.

17-17 is the score.

Sammie baby

55 yd TD pass to Straughter!!!

*the pass was flat again....but Sammie is the man and made a play!

10-10, 4:49 left in he 2nd qtr.

10-3 Stanford...5 min left in the 2nd qtr

The defense is getting tired because our offense is stinking up the field.

By the look on Riley's face, I think he is ready remove Moevao. He probably should, the guy looks horrible. His passes have no arch, and are not accurate.

This is not looking good for the Beaver's so far. Luckily, our skill players are really good, besides QB and Punter, and we can still pull this one out.

Beavers get screwed by officials, down 7-3

I guess the ref's are getting the kinks out too. They totally blew a pass interference call in the endzone and gave Stanford 1st and goal.

OSU's defense is playing well, but the offense has got to give them help.

We look much faster than Stanford. Our QB is looking weak. I mean real weak.

So is our punter....

OSU vs Stanford game report

The Score is zero zero after one qtr. But the Beav's kicked a field goal to start the 2nd Qtr.

OSU's defense looks good. Victor Butler in particular.

The OSU offense looks great at every skills position except for QB. McCants fumbled in the first qtr, and Quizz got carries. I think Stanford looks good on defense, but in generial OSU's offense is inconsistent so far.

It's early. Both teams are playing hard. There have been some great hits so far.

2 Days till the we start cutting some Cardinal wood

Phil's Stanford Game Preview:

This is more a collection of questions than it is a preview of the game.

The OSU offense is led by an extremely talented group of athletes. The two keys to me are the play of the offensive line and the quarterback. The receivers have tons of experience. Straughter will have to shed the demons that plagued him last year which seems to be very likely to happen. "Big" Rodgers has great speed and should keep everyone on their toes when he starts in motion. At this point the running backs are still nameless which is a good thing. The horses are all ready to prove that they belong. This leads to our two big questions. Will the offensive line tighten up and ball? They better! Moevao needs time. Time leads to a strong passing game and a strong passing game leads to a productive running game. Moevao can make the plays. He simply needs to play within himself, take few chances and trust what he sees.

The defense has a strong front and experience backfield but a flabby belly. This is not a foreign place to be for us. A few years back the linebackers were the "inexperienced and small" group that turned out to be rated as high as the vaunted USC crew of professionals. If the linebackers can play sideline to sideline and plug the run the D can hold their own. The DB's will be beaten at times, but as Meat points out, all of the receivers who venture out to catch a pass will have Al "I blew up Jake Locker" Afalava on their mind. The d-line and will hit the QB. The defense is reliant on the offensive line as well. Fatigue can kill them. The more the offense is on the field the more fresh the D will be.

DO YOU HEAR ME PERRY?

Football player rap that is acceptable to the NCAA

This is ok:

This is not: (This donkey lost his scholarship to Oklahoma, not sure if it was because he can't speak english or said something offensive)

OSU has a YouTube marketing group

WTF. Ok, it's very Web 2.0, but in CF land who gives???

Here is the YouTube URL: http://www.youtube.com/user/OregonStateMarketing

Here's a baseball highlight reel: (who cares it's football season)

Here is the "Let it Rage" Football Clip:

This dude will not see the field

But I love his commitment to the program.....

OSU's defense will not be as good as last year

I am glad that OSU's new offensive players are balling, but our defense is looking weak. The Rodgers brothers are showing excellent skills this fall, and Moevao is deliver good passes. The O-line looks like it is still a guessing game. So does the whole team. Who I am I kidding.

Building the Dam spells out this year's issues- Read More

There are a lot of players nursing injuries which bothers me. Jeremy Perry needs to get his act together and start practicing. He is stupid to think NFL scouts will ignore fall camp performance. Perry is not the only one. There are others. Our defense needs help.

The way the team is performing this camp is positive over all. We could be fun to watch. WTF. Last year was a lot different.

Good news- OSU has ballers on both sides of the ball. Remember Al "My hits melt you like" Afalava. The level of talent on OSU's skill positions is obvious, minus the QB. Our QB is still a question mark in my mind. I don't care how much weight Moevao lost in the offseason.

Here is an example of the kind of "game changing" damage Al can do:

Our kicking game is a complete question mark, actually check that. I can say it sucks. Punters and PK's are suspect.

Defense and Special Teams wins championships. Remember this.

This reminds me of the 2000 team minus the complete obscure QB leading the team. We have obvious strength at WR and RB. Perhaps Victor Butler could be the next DeLawrence Grant.

I can't wait for Stanford. I hope we crush them 38-7.
