Nike Store- HQ report 2

After the Civil War I reported that the Nike Store at Nike HQ was inundated with University of Oregon gear. I wrote it off because Oregon was in the Rose Bowl.

Now, report 2. It's March 2011. Oregon's basketball team or any other sport, is not in national championship contention- that I know of.

Guess what the merchandise mix is in the Nike Store at Nike HQ?

99% University of Oregon
1%- one OSU sweatshirt and one visor to be specific- I will publish the items as soon as I get them in a good light.

BTW- Nike doesn't allow anyone to take pics of their campus store- I tried to get them, but failed.

Don't forget to vote on whether OSU should drop Nike or not. The poll is on the right side of this blog.

BTW- Did I mention the University of Oregon is under investigation by the NCAA for recruiting violations?

OSU doesn't need Nike, or it's UofO connections. Distance is a good idea right now. What if Phil Knight get's implicated with recruiting violations? OSU doesn't need to associate with an organization like Nike.

Phil Knight, I mean University of Oregon loses BCS

Auburn wins on a last second field goal 22-19.

Oregon played great. Their uniforms looked awesome.

Civil War ain't so civil

This years edition of the Civil War (12:30 PST kickoff) is probably the most torturous ever for the Beaver Nation. The fact that ESPN is at the game, the odds of OSU winning are 1 million to 1 at least, the game is nationally televised, OSU injuries are prevalent, the last game was a blowout loss(albeit to a top 5 team), OSU's Pac-10 and national stats are bottom tier on offense and defense.

These are conditions for disaster for OSU. Friends of mine keep saying that it's the Civil War and records and stats don't matter, but I am not buying that BS. ESPN is doing it's job in hyping the game as much as they can, but they know OSU is going to get plastered. In interviews Chip Kelly has done an incredible job being diplomatic about the ass whupping he is about to administer. Mike Riley is being Mike Riley.

If the Beavers keep it close they can save some face. If they win then they shock the world and at least go to a bottom tier bowl and have a better chance in the recruiting wars.

Building the Dam has an inspirational video that we hope the Beaver players watch over and over tonight. Perhaps they'll gain some initiative to play out of their minds. I don't think trying hard will affect the final outcome however. Ryan Katz won't inspire anyone based on this vid. Quizz comments on fighting hard. I don't think the OSU players will react well when they are down 3 scores early. I also don't think that an early lead will hold given the explosiveness of Oregon's offense. Oregon has a ton at stake in this game, do you think they will come out flat? I don't.

My prediction: 63-14 Oregon. The first half might be close, but in the 3rd and 4th quarters it gets ugly.

PS to OSU players- feel free to prove my prediction wrong... xoxox OSUBFBB

Oregon...are you kidding me?

It's hard to knock the University of Oregon these days, as much as I loathe OSU's top rival, they are really good this year. #1 in points scored, #3 in rushing, #15 point against, and #29 in passing- yes passing- these guys run the ball better than they pass. Which is weird given the scheme.

UofO has done an amazing job recruiting Pac-10 talent into their spread offense. Even losing their starting QB from last year doesn't matter, Masoli is an after thought these days. I am not sure about the defense except to say they don't spend much time on the field. The defenses' stats will always be skewed because of the offense.

Oregon has an offensive system that is damn near unstoppable. The only way they fail is by player error, major error. The system makes up for most mistakes and makes the game simple. That's what impresses me the most, they keep it simple and execute. Players can be plugged in, and there is no drop off. Yes, James is really good, but I think a lot of talented backs could produce in Oregon's system.

OSU is going to have it's work cut out for it in this year's civil war.

Ducks have issues

The national press is all over the LaMichael James sentence today. The whole UofO football is under the microscope ala Oklahoma or Colorado in the 80's. Back then teams had felons all over the place. I thought programs learned their lesson, apparently not.

It's weird watching history repeat itself like this. I am getting old.

Let's hope the Beavers never get in position where they have talented athletes that are sociopaths too.

BTW- I do not think Oregon is the only team that has discipline issues. I think they are being mismanaged (by Chip Kelly) and players are getting caught.

Game on

I am so psyched for this year's Civil War, my palms are sweating.

BeaverPhil is going to be at the game taking lots of pics.

I am going to watch the game on my 42" or at a friends' crib.

The buildup to this years game is awesome. The Beavers are showing well. The ESPN promo's are worth

LaGarrett Blount = Donkey

LG got what he deserved, a season long suspension. What a total embarrassment for the University of Oregon.

Here are some clips of other not-so brilliant fights in college football history-

Which fight is worse?

Here is a clip of the infamous Miami vs Florida International, another doozy.

Here's a brawl from 1971- USC vs Notre Dame: (kinda tame compared to the current generation's brawls)

Oregon's Offense is really good

Just like I mentioned in the last post, Oregon is a copier, not an innovator.

They have replicated Florida's offense perfectly. It is really good. Masoli is versatile like Tebow....execution is the key to success.

Check the Holiday Bowl gamecast here

Masoli vs Moevao

Is it just me or is Oregon trying to copy Oregon State in every way possible?

Final thought on the Rose Bowl

It's not often you sit in first place with a win against USC in the Pac-10. One game to go. Best of all, you have a home game against your arch rival. This loss hurts.

This was a better year than I expected, but coming so close hurts. I am sure the OSU team will find a way to rebound and have a good showing in the Sun Bowl. The OSU coaches have the challenge of not losing any recruits because of this game while they spend the next few weeks on the recruiting trail. While OSU has a bunch of verbal commits, that's all they are. Verbal commits. Signing on the dotted line is what counts.

Anyway, this game was a huge disappointment. The whole Beaver Nation is in mourning.

Let GnR take us out with an appropriate ditty:

65-38

Oregon just administered the biggest ass whipping on Oregon State ever.

Oregon State played horrible defense all night. It's ironic that the option offense was what stopped us from going to the Rose Bowl

697 yds of total offense by Oregon was unreal. Oregon's offensive coordinator deserves a ton of credit. Banker got out-coached tonight. Bigtime.

There is no point in analyzing individual players for Oregon State. They all played hard, but made tons of foolish mistakes. James Rogers did nothing, and ended up hurt. Ok, I had to comment on him. Stroughter played a great game.

Most of all, Oregon State got "out-athleted" tonight. Oregon's players were more athletic that OSU's.

Our players got used tonight. Hopefully we can try and save some face in our bowl game.

OSU is Upper Echelon

Ken Goe at the Oregonian thinks so. Here are a couple quotes from him about the OSU football program:

Riley and his coaching staff have done a marvelous job of locating and developing talent. Riley's recruiting classes since his return to OSU in 2003 have been ranked near the bottom of the Pacific-10 Conference: In order, they've been ninth, sixth, eighth, seventh, eighth and ninth.

In that five-year stretch, the Beavers have gone 47-27 and finished third in the conference three times. They can finish no worse than second this season. They are 4-0 in bowl games.

MORE:

This year's team supposedly was rebuilding on defense and the offensive line. Guess what?

The Beavers are second in the conference in total defense, fourth in rushing offense and lead the Pac-10 in fewest sacks allowed.

It's not bad, considering Riley and his staff are doing it with guys the recruiting services and programs like USC, Oregon, California and UCLA overlooked or rejected.

MORE:

At OSU, it doesn't seem to matter whether Canfield or Lyle Moevao plays quarterback, whether Tavita Thompson or Mike Remmers starts at right tackle, whether sensational freshman Jacquizz Rodgers gets hurt in the first quarter or Justin Kahut misses the tying extra point with less than four minutes to play.

These guys have enough faith in each other and belief in themselves that they will find a way to win.

This doesn't happen overnight. It's the product of a consistent philosophy, good coaching, confidence and of success building on success.

Duck's are already talking trash...

I can't wait to watch OSU's defense unleash on Oregon. We are going to crush them....

Nothing worse

My heart and prayers go out to Todd Lamar Doxey's family and friends. He was a U of O defensive back who died yesterday after diving off a bridge into a river in Oregon. Utterly tragic.

As much as I rail on U of O on this blog, I consider some ex-U of O grads good friends. Football razzing is just that. It's meant in good fun. In the locker room and on the field we all talked shit, this blog is meant in the same vein.

I am a parent, and the thought of losing my son at Todd's young age is horrifying.

Bellotti is overpaid

Wow. The Oregonian is straight calling out Bellotti as a scrub and I couldn't agree more. Apparently he could make 3M in income this fall. Which is a lot more than Mike Riley will get even if he wins the National Championship.

Here's the best quote:

Riley doesn't put as many fannies in the seats (Autzen is bigger and Faber sells more season tickets) but his teams do win in November, they win their bowl games - and there is a very real possibility that the lunchpail Beavers, who don't have a rich owner, will bag the Ducks for the third year in a row. ... circle Nov. 29 on your calendar, and take the over.

I am not jealous of the Ducks, I am stoked that OSU is the under-funded upstart that keeps kicking their ass on the football field.

I would be a millionaire of I got a dollar for every Duck excuse for why they can't win in November or during bowl season.

I can't wait to shred the Daffy Ducks at home next fall!!!!!!!!!

James Rodgers is the man.

Here's why OSU rocks:

Bellotti talks to the press

The Statesman Journal
figures out that the Beavers have a better Defense than UofO's Offense. Wuppdeedoo.

But they also say that Mike Riley is a better coach than Mike Bellotti. I gotta give the Statesman some credit. No, not for saying that Riley is better than Bellotti. We all know that already. The Statesman Journal doesn't list the author of the comparison, which is really smart. You don't want Colleen Bellotti after you.

A rock band was playing in Eugene a couple years ago and they penned this great song after meeting the coach's then wife....check it out....

In other news, the Portland Tribune describes how OSU players from Oregon really care about the Civil War, while players from outside the state don't really give a shit.
