The Greatest Bowl Victory in the History of Oregon St.
I just watched the greatest performance in a bowl game by the Oregon State Beavers.
I am still in shock. 39-38. 18 points in the fourth quarter.
Everyone on the OSU team stepped up and made plays.
I have been on the phone non-stop since the end of the game.
Mizzu tries to ice our kicker and calls a timeout before our team comes on the field. Thinking we are going for a PAT. Riley calls for 2 and runs the ball. Can you say "Big Balls"? Yes I can.
The final 22 seconds of the game seemed like an eternity of pleasure.
The Oregon State Beavers came back from 14 pts down to win the game. Unreal.
Matt Moore played like a pro and Joe Newton resurrected his career with a great final game.
Yvenson Bernard is a outright stud, his heart is as big as Reser Stadium.
Sammie Stroughter is an outright superstar and reminded me of Reggie Bush. 4 and 3? Send it to Sammie. Need a punt return? How does 40 yarder work for ya?
Brandon Powers redeemed himself after two drops late in the game.
The Defense tightened at the end to give the offense an opportunity to win the game-which they did.
OSU reminds me more of USC than any other team in the Pac-10 in terms of attitude. Players make plays. OSU players get it.
If you have a Tivo of the game and are willing to make a copy available to me, I would be so grateful!!!!
More comments to come. Way to go Beavers! Alumni are so proud!!!!

CBS sucks and so does Katie Couric
What a bunch of complete assholes at CBS! They cut the OSU game off to show President Ford's casket being moved into a stupid church!!! Worse they had to waste our time with stupid interviews about Saddam Hussein!!!
We lost the last 8 minutes of the first half!!!
I can't believe what a bunch of dickheads run CBS. It was the stupidest move I've seen in broadcasting in a long while.
Katie Couric is forever on my shit list too. We all know Ford died, to interupt the game is stupid. They knew in advance when Ford's casket was going to be moved, the whole thing was pretentious. Special Report my ass.

11:15am Kickoff tomorrow
It's going to be an early beer drinking day tomorrow-can't wait!
I can't really comment on the game because I've never seen Missouri play this year. I have no idea what kind of team they are. I can only focus on what the Beavers need to do.
My keys to the game are:
Defense.

Defense.
No Turnovers.
If we can focus on those areas we should win.

Missouri players catch Virus
As OSU heads towards it's matchup with Missouri, 22 players from the Tigers came down with food poisoning or the Norwok Virus. This takes a couple days to recover from and you are usually dehydrated and depleted of vitamins. Food poisoning is really debilating. This was a highly contagious exposure, 22 players going down is lucky-it could have been more. Oregon State reported no players sick this week.
Sources tell me that ex-KGB agents were seen at some of the pre-game functions, and there were traces of plutonium found in the hotel Missouri was staying at...
If it helps the Beavers win..so be it.
Read the article
On another note-Joe Newton (this blogger's biggest dissapointment of the season), is getting love from the local press.

Ducks Suck
I don't like to root for the Oregon Ducks, but I almost felt sorry for them watching the Las Vegas Bowl.
Not only did they have the lamest uniforms ever, but they got their butts kicked 38-8. I forget how they managed to score even 8 pts. BYU used them like a wet rag all night, which had to hurt Oregon's recruiting effort.
Interesting Commentary on the sorry state of Oregon Duck football:
Then Bellotti was given the opportunity to back down from his earlier statement about BYU not being a top-half of the Pacific-10 Conference team. And the coach of the fifth-place Pac-10 team, which just finished embarrassing itself in front of the biggest crowd ever to see an organized sporting event in Nevada history, said, "My opinion has not changed."
Check out the rest of this article about Bellotti acting like a space cadet.
Immediate reaction from the Oregonian Behind the Ducks blog...it's ok the Ducks really are that bad..and their uniforms are horrible.
Apparently Duck fans are not happy about their sorry ass football squad
5 days till the Sun Bowl-can't wait.

The Ducks uniforms are Gay
Not that there is anything wrong with being gay, but U of O is seriously metro if not completely gay. Their strange fascination with color combinations and fabric has to tell you something. I think it is definitely weird. If I was a high school recruit I would question U of O's oommitment to the university itself, seem like they are in love with Phil Knight. I think that is weird. If you are watching the Las Vegas Bowl you will see what I mean.
Bottomline, it doesn't matter what uniform you wear, it's how you play on the field that counts.

Sunshine of my Love
I've have quite busy lately, sorry for not posting lately. Even though the Beavers have been on hiatus leading up to the Sun Bowl, alot has been going on.
1)It's Recruiting Season for Football!
Yes, I am biased, but the Oregon Ducks have the ugliest uniforms in the Pac-10 bar none. Any recruit who thinks Green and Yellow are tough colors should go to Oregon. We will continue to mop the field with your ass. OSU will even help get you on a Queer Guy for the Straight Guy episode-every year we kick your ass.
Wew. I am a little worked up. Seriously, Oregon State has the hardest uniforms in the Pac-10. USC has the tradition, but we have the Sith aurora down pat. Black on black- are you kidding me?
Here's Paul Buker's Take

OSU Baseball Dynasty in the Making....
Check out the Oregon State baseball program! Coach Pat Casey is the man, and has recruited well. Probably the greatest recruiting class ever at Oregon State. This class is chock full of 4 star players...now the question is-how many will go pro and how many stay?
It's a good problem to have in my opinion.....

Riley is a Donkey
Either De Carolis is asleep at the wheel or Riley is full of it. Riley is supposed to be wrapping up a contract extension with OSU, but instead the news this week is that he is considering the ASU job. This is not a simple story, NFL agent David Dunn is negotiating for Riley, Lisa Love is the AD for ASU and knows Riley from his stint at USC, Erickson and Mike Price are the other candidates, Riley is taking a second interview with ASU, Riley's current compensation package is below the national average, and where does that leave us? The Beaver Nation?
SOL.
I again maintain my opinion that Riley isn't going anywhere. I am surprised that it's taking as long as it is. I think this is definitely going to hurt recruiting. That is the real shame of this situation. OSU stood to get a lot of great recruits this season, but that doesn't look likely now.....
OSU needs to hurry up and sign Riley....I just hope it's worth it. I am not a fan of bringing Erickson or Price to OSU either. If Riley goes to ASU, we should get a young and hungry coach from the west coast.

Riley is not going to Alabama
I tend to agree with Matt Ciaffoni on this one. Alabama should not have fired Shula one year after a 10-2 season. 6-6 is not good, but it only takes a couple injuries in the SEC to turn a good team into an average one. Alabama's adminsitration is going to have a hard time convincing a coach that they are 100% behind them-no matter how juicy the compensation package is.
Riley would be best served to continue with negotiations with OSU, more perks and an extension with better payouts. He should be one of the top 5 headcoaches in the Pac-10 in terms of compensation. There is a long term benefit to paying your headcoach well- it means the administration takes football seriously. Being cheap only works for so long. Talent will leave if they can't get what they think they are worth-right or wrong. I think OSU's administration is committed to continued dominance in Pac-10.

Oregon State beats Hawaii 35-32
I am exhausted...but the Oregon State Beavers survived another close call to win a game on the road! There were so many playmakers it's hard to name them all....
OSU played through horrible officiating, brutal winds, and two fat assed runningbacks to beat an excellent team tonight.
This is definitely one of the best football teams ever at OSU! Great Job!

Which Beaver will show up tonight versus Hawaii?
I am clueless. This year's team has been hard to read. Beating Hawaii is very important to me. Hawaii has served Oregon State in the past, and last time it was in a bowl. Each time Oregon State lost to the Warriors from Hawaii, the referees always had a role. I suspect the ref's will have a BIG role in this game.
I hope the kids from Corvallis have a sense of history or ego. They should beat Hawaii, but this road trip is the worst.
Go Oregon State Beavers.

OSU All-Pac-10 Selections-and my opinion
OSU All-Pac-10 Selections
First Team
OL – Jeremy Perry, So., Hau’ula, Hawai’i
(J Perry is a baller, and a deserving first teamer)
RB – Yvenson Bernard, Jr., Boca Raton, Florida
(Y Bernard is also a straight baller, not the most physically gifted but plays with a ton of heart)
SS – Sabby Piscitelli, Sr., Boca Raton, Florida
(Sabby is an above average Safety in the Pac-10, but he has a tendency for over-playing technically and a huge risk taker)
Second Team
WR – Sammie Stroughter, Jr,. Sacramento, California
(Sammie is a straight baller, and if it wasn't for the fact that the Pac-10 is rich in WR thoroughbreds, he would be first team in most conferences. He's only a Jr BTW.)
PR – Sammie Stroughter, Jr., Sacramento, California
(3 TD's, he's the man and only a Jr.)
OL – Kyle DeVan, Jr., Vacaville, California
(Rock Steady baller)
OL – Adam Koets, Sr., Santa Ana, California
(Rock Steady baller too.)
LB – Derrick Doggett, Jr., San Diego, California
(He needs to add 20 lbs of muscle this offseason to be a 1st Rd pick)
PK – Alexis Serna, Jr., Fontana, California
(The hobbit is not getting the love he got last year)
Honorable Mention
OL – Andy Levitre, So., Ben Lomand, California
(Could've been 1st team if he signed with Balco)
QB – Matt Moore, Sr., Valencia, California
(Well deserved)
TE – Joe Newton, Sr., Roseburg, Oregon
(A scrub who deserved nothing, I can't believe he got "Honorable Mention".)
OG – Roy Schuening, Jr., Pendleton, Oregon
(Baller)
DT – Ben Siegert, Sr., Glendale, Arizona
(Showed up in the game with Oregon)
DE – Jeff Van Orsow, Jr., Las Vegas, Nevada
(Immortalized with his knock down of John David Booty's pass)

Tsunami in Oahu
The Beavers will need to bring all of their physical advantages against their next opponent-Hawaii. Hawaii barely beat Purdue (8-5), Read More.
Hawaii is a scoring machine, be it against inferior talent. OSU's corners will be severely tested. So will the linebackers. They will need to play a swarming defense to have a chance of slowing down Hawaii. Some key hits and turnovers will help.
But the real key is going to be OSU's offense. They need to keep OSU's defense off the field. They need to eat up the clock with sustained scoring drives. Quick scores will not help because Hawaii can strike fast. Key stat- Yvenson Bernard's carries, if he gets over 30 carries the Beavers should win.

"This Team Will Be Remembered"
Mike Riley is right this is one of the best Beaver teams since 2000. Finishing 3rd blew away all analyst expectations. I was really negative on the team when they were 2-3. The WSU loss could have been a win. It was a very frustrating loss. Minus the disappointing loss to UCLA-which the Beavers should've won-UCLA is not better than the Beav's, they won 6 of 7. They beat Arizona and USC-two of the best teams in the pac-10. Want to read more quotes from OSU players? Read More

Beavers squeek by the Ducks 30-28
THE BEAVERS ARE THE CIVIL WAR CHAMPS for 2006
Way to go Beavers!!!!
The Beavers played with real heart and came back to win 30-28. Alexa Serna hit a 40 yard field goal to win the game. Sammie Straughter made two huge catches to move the Beavers into field goal range, he had catches of 16 and 37 yards on the final drive.
Zero picks from Matt Moore was HUGE. He had some really clutch passes. He was incredible.
Ruben Jackson came up huge with 4 catches for 100 yards.
The defense was good, but the tall Oregon receivers had an advantage against the smaller Beaver db's. Nonetheless, the Beavers defense was tough and physical. The linebackers were so aggressive they were caught out of position thanks to screwy Oregon plays.
The Beavers own the state of Oregon!
Bummer, they didn't cover the fucking spread........

48 Hrs to go
Less than that really. I can't wait. I hope the Beaver Nation is loud and proud for this game. Oregon is supposed to be getting a few of the impact players back from injured reserve, and they will be hungry for a win.
The question is whether or not OSU is ready. I expect a high level of intensity. Even if Oregon gets a few talented players back this week, they will still be rusty. Will the Beavers pick it a notch and finish 3rd in the Pac-10? A lot is riding on this game.
I think they will be ready. I like that there are a lot of contributors on the Beavers football team. It gives OSU's opponents less ways to stop them. I expect contributions from all the Beavers this game.....I sound like a coach or something.
The Ducks are still trying to figure out who should start.

Duck joke
Here's a funny Duck joke....
Ducks
Three women die together in an accident and go to heaven. When they get there, St. Peter says, "We only have one rule here in heaven ... don't step on the ducks."
So they enter heaven, and sure enough, there are ducks all over the place. It is almost impossible not to step on a duck, and although they try their best to avoid them, the first woman accidentally steps on one.
Along comes St. Peter with the ugliest man she ever saw. St. Peter chains them together and says, "Your punishment for stepping on a duck is to spend eternity chained to this ugly man!"
The next day, the second woman accidentally steps on a duck, and along came St. Peter, who doesn't miss a thing, and with him is another extremely ugly man. He chains them together with the same punishment as the first woman.
The third woman has observed all this and, not wanting to be chained for all eternity to an ugly man, is very, VERY careful where she steps. She manages to go months without stepping on any ducks, but one day St. Peter comes up to her with the most handsome man she has ever laid eyes on ... very tall, tan, muscular, and with good hair. St. Peter chains them together without saying a word.
The woman remarks, "I wonder what I did to deserve being chained to you for all of eternity?"
And the guy says, "Well, I don't know what you did, but I stepped on a duck."

Beavers chop Cardinal wood and build a dam
OSU beat up on the hapless Stanford Cardinal yesterday 30-7. I don't want to beat my chest over this victory because I'll probably be working for a Stanford grad any day now. Stanford's high IQ couldn't help them in this game. OSU was too physical.
Chris Johnson's amazing catch:
Here are some highlights:
- OSU finally won a game in which they didn't score first this season.
- OSU's defense played outstanding-Doggett was a playmaker again.
- Yvenson Bernard rushed for 168, but should've had 230. Nice to see solid production though.
- Brandon Powers was the leading receiver with 6 catches and 1 TD-apparently the OSU offensive coordinator saw the same I saw last week-B. Powers is a producer and needs to be fed.
- Matt Moore did not turn the ball over.
Here are some lowlights:
- OSU's RED ZONE OFFENSE IS PATHETIC! Serna luckily converted his kicks, but OSU needs to be way more efficient inside the red zone if it wants to beat Oregon and Hawaii.
- Joe Newton had ZERO catches.
Here's the recap and box score info.
Next Week is the Ducks, and they got pounded by Arizona yesterday. Arizona is probably the second best team in the conference behind USC right now. The Wildcats have a great Defense and defense wins games and championships. Thank god OSU played them earlier in the season and got a win.

Cardinal preview
I've been away this week on business, but I've been reading up on the opinions about the game tonight.
Game Preview: Stanford Posted by Matt Ciaffoni
ESPN Preview
USA Today
Here's my take, Stanford sucks and they know it. OSU needs to play an aggressive attacking game both on offense and defense. Special teams cannot play as sloppy as they did last week. I consider missed or blocked field goals to be turnovers too. Wheat-Brown is not a major loss for the Beav's, I would be WAY more concerned if B. Powers wasn't playing. That guy just makes plays week in and week out. He was the reason the Beavers posted 7 against UCLA. Why he didn't get the ball the rest of the game is a mystery. He should be fed the ball way more.
If the Beavers can avoid turnovers, and create a few on defense, they should win easily. I think Riley was embarrassed about the UCLA loss. Moore and Newton are two of the most dissappointing players this year. Seniors who have played as much as Moore and Newton should be playing at an above average level. Neither has been dominant this year. OSU fans consider an average performance by Moore to be great because he has set the bar so low in his two years at OSU.
I am looking forward to next year already. It's going to be interesting to see if Sean Canfield steps up and becomes a player. The Gunderson/Moore love fest is going to be great to get rid of too. I say that because Gunderson had an awesome chance to step up and make a name for himself last year and didn't. He was such a pud in the Civil War game it's ridiculous.

OSU vs UCLA game analysis.....drink more beer
And then watch the film again. It's that depressing. The Beav's could've won this game. Phil and I had bird's eye views of this game(after 5 coors lights), here's a shot on the field pregame.
Riley looked him over a couple times as Phil walked up to him on the field before the game.Phil went out and shook Mike Riley's hand and tried to remind him of who he was. Riley totally pretended he knew him but couldn't remember his name...I am so glad I took this pic. I am deeply depressed I don't have a couple pics of Joe Newton the sideline during the second half...what a head case...more on that later.
This handshake was probably the kiss of death for the Beavers. Phil passed off some mojo from the character building years or something.....
Another pic of the lackluster vibe pregame....the turf sure looked good...
Keenan Lewis pregame....he seemed focused....but the rest of dem Beav's looked lost....
The UCLA cheerleaders are frickin hot...the brunete in the middle was definitely checking me out. I caught her peepin' a couple times.....or I was staring at her and giving her the creeps...one of the two...
Phil had a few too many and told this ref to have a good game....he promptly called two bulls**t penalties on the Beavers in the first half. He must hate whitey. White jerseys that is....
More too come. If Joe Newton reads this blog, you may not want to read future posts.
My quick take on the game? OSU lacked enthusiam and focus, either Matt Moore can't throw in the middle of the field or OSU's OC is retarded. UCLA took away the outside, and we had no answer up the middle. Bernard is a stud, but is hurting all over. Clinton Polk probably got a chewing out by his position coach for dropping the rock like a donkey. The defense played well except for 5 HUGE mental errors. By the 4th qtr the OSU defense was desperate and it showed. Matt Moore is a pud, and it showed Saturday. After his 2nd fumble, Phil and I heard him talk to himself, he was saying "I never fumble, I never fumble". Phil turned to me and said in a medium volume- "yeah, you only throw interceptions...asshole". The net net is that turnovers were the key to the game.

I was on the sideline of the OSU vs. UCLA game
Ah yes, as I mentioned before, I had sideline passes for the OSU game this weekend. Mucho thanks to Phil Hammitt for hooking me up. He and I used to play football for OSU back in the character building years. I played tight-end and Phil was my backup. His nickname was and is "Spam", and mine is "Meat". "Spam" was an orginal play off of Phil's last name, but since Phil had to one up me-he came up with "Meat". I will speak no further on this subject...but it is more interesting than the UCLA game yesterday. The Beavers got thumped 25-7 by the cute little Bruins. The score was 13-7 at halftime, with UCLA holding a slim lead. Turnovers played a huge factor in the loss.
Being on the sideline had it's perks. I stood in and among the players the whole game. I was there for pregame and the end(sort of...I had to piss so bad, we left with a few seconds remaining).
Before the game Phil and I decided to chow on some Carne Asade sandwiches from a sub shop in Redondo Beach(sorry can't remember than name). We buried a few beers before heading towards the OSU Alumni tent.
After a few beers the walk to the stadium looked kind scary, so we decided to carry a 12 pack with us...we had to keep the fluids going......so we didn't start to cramp during the game.
The view walking into the ground floor tunnel entrance onto the field of the Rose Bowl. This is still a great stadium and a great field to play on.
This is the a view coming out from the tunnel, OSU is warming up in the visitors endzone. Phil and I mingled. Sadly the Beav's were not fired up for this game for some reason. It was apparent to Phil and I early.
Ok, I am going to post more pics and my comments on the game-which we should have won. I have some issues with some players. I will name names....since no one reads this blog anyway. Some players are serious head cases and are lost in space. Some of it is coaching, and some of it is the players. UCLA was not that good. Worthy of a victory? Yes, but the game could have had a completely different outcome if not for a few key plays.

Looks like UCLA's coach is under some pressure this year. OSU better be psyched about this game. They need to maintain momentum. Moore has a lot to prove in this game, and if he doesn't meltdown he should lead OSU to a victory.
My biggest concern coming into this game is turnovers. If OSU fails to hold on to the ball UCLA could pull the upset.
I strongly recommend that someone on the OSU defense should hit a UCLA player hard early in the game. Crushing hits always make a difference. Just look at the UW,USC,ASU games.

Final Comments on ASU....They Suck
Yep that's it. That's my analysis of ASU Sun Devils. Ok, that's a little harsh. They don't actually suck, they have some pretty good players. They just don't play wide receiver.
Since I wasn't in attendance for this game and I had to listen to the internet radio, I didn't get to see the action until the following night on FSN. After watching the tape I'd say the defense played exceptionally well except for the 40 yard TD gallop.
I can't believe the Beavers are 6-3. At 2-3 I thought it was all over. Quite a turnaround, but it's not over.
The USC victory has it's pluses and minuses. So does the 44-10 blowout of ASU. My biggest fear is over-confidence. UCLA is not a push over. Yes they have lost 4 in a row, but that should mean that they are hungry for a victory.
Matt Moore played so poorly last year he has no where to go except upwards.
Injuries are taking a toll on the Beav's, lineman are out, runningbacks are gimpy, and they still have another 4 games left.
BTW- I've got sideline passes for the UCLA game. F**k Yeah!!!

ASU Spun Devils
There has been a few bloggers stating that ASU is going to be tough, and OSU needs to be psyched to compete. Given Riley's history of Sybil- like behavior, there are two teams that could show up.
Team #1- Sloppy, Turnover Prone, Defensively soft, Penalty Prone
Team #2- Aggressive, Efficient, and Consistent Playmaking
I don't care about the weather, except that it should be a problem for ASU. Teams do not like coming to Corvallis, especially teams from Arizona. Those teams are used to sunshine and calm winds. There is no way to reproduce the inclimate environment in a desert.
If OSU acts like Team #1, they could still win. OSU can rebound better in this kind of weather compared to ASU.
If the weather is 60 degrees or below, expect ASU to be uncomfortable. OSU defense needs to deliver some hard hits in the first qtr to set the tone.
I expect Clinton Polk to have a big game. Something in my gut tells me he will overcome nerves and run for serious yards. I think he looks alot like Marcus Allen, but without the ability to switch the ball and straight arm. If he could learn to do that he could be really dangerous.
Go Beav's.

Watching the OSU/USC replay
I am watching the replay on FSN, and it's really cool to see the Beavers spank that ass. There were so many big plays for the Beavers throughout the game. The 3rd quarter was amazing. The defense really played hard. The only bummer was Kyle Loomis's dropped snap on the punt. He was a total tool. A screw up like that was the only way USC could get in the endzone anyway.
Here's a pic of Sammy Stroughter's incredible catch in the third quarter of the OSU vs. USC game this past weekend. Joe Newton caught a TD pass shortly after this play putting the Beavers up 23-10.
Next up is ASU. This will be a test again.

Beavers use Trojans
OSU Beavers survived a late rally by the ever powerful USC Trojans, and won 33-31 in a thriller. See the Box Score for the stats of this ass whipping.
I watched the game on TV and was in shock from the first kickoff till the end. I couldn't believe I was seeing what I was seeing.
The Beavers played an outstanding football game to beat the #3 team in the nation. Besides the great play of Sammy Stroughter, I was thrilled with the physical play of the OSU defense. Cornerbacks come up and stick USC's runningbacks over and over. It was like they were possessed or something. Guys who were completely soft against BSU and Cal, plaid like nails against USC. Francies hit against Chauncy Washington was particularly violent and caused a fumble in the 3rd qtr. USC was getting blasted all afternoon on both offense and defense. They played sloppy a couple times, but for the most part OSU's players just made plays. The score was 33-10 late in the third, and USC did make a run in the end. Thanks to a major donkey move by freshman punter Kyle Loomis. Each successful play by USC's offense was an incredible play, meaning they had to work for everything for 60 minutes.
In the end Jeff VanOrso made a huge play knocking down Booty's pass on the last play of the game. Throughout the game "no-name" players made huge play after huge play.
Clinton Polk looked very good considering it was his first start, his 100 yards rushing was impressive. No fumbles was even better.
Joe Newton was the invisible man most of the game, then he came out of nowhere to make an awesome TD catch over 3 USC scrubs.
Matt Moore played a confident game in my opinion. He made a ton of key throws to the surprise star of the team- Sammy Stroughter. One play that stood out to me was early in the first half-possibly the first series- where Moore was flushed out of the pocket and looked to be going down and all of the sudden he flicked the ball to Clinton Polk, who took it for a first down. It was a great play.
Sammy Stroughter was unbelievable. They say that players make plays in big games, and Sammy a true player Saturday against the Trojans. He had one of the greatest diving catches I've ever seen. He ran back a punt 70 yards for a TD. He made first down after first down. He has elavated his game to another level. It reminds me of Mike Hass, which is a real complement. He should be All Pac-10 as long as he doesn't get hurt. He is having a spectacular season.
Oh how I love that OSU beat the snobs from SoCal! David beat Goliath! So much for USC's vaunted athletes. The Beavers spanked that ass!
Bryan Payton had a great game, his interception on USC's first drive was a dagger to the thigh of the Trojan's. His play set the tone for the rest of the game. USC was lucky to make it close in the end.

17-10 over the pussycats of AZ
I did not get to watch this game, I listened to it on the internet. Winning is winning. If it's 2 points or 30, it's a W.
I am glad the Beavers won, but they are in trouble this week. Yes there is momentum, but they now have injuries. Clinton Polk better learn to hold on to the football in the Pac-10. He needs to know this isn't JC ball anymore.
Riley is still Riley. I want the Beavers to be good, just not with him at the helm. Even if they go 9-4, I will be dissapointed. They could go 7-6 or 6-7. Then he's history for sure.
BTW- This week the Beavers play USC!!!! My favorite game of the year. David vs Goliath. Geeks vs the Jocks. Rich vs Poor. Sith vs Jedi. This is it.

And I thought I'd seen it all in Beaverland
Jerry Pettibone Football Evaluations
Jerry Pettibone with all his good intentions- and believe me he had plenty while at OSU- is a tool.
A wishbone offense in the Pac-10. Are fucking kidding me?
Sadly, I played for Jerry. He is a good person, although I question this business he is now in. Seems like a scam to me. $350, $750 and $1150 to have Pettibone evaluate you.....you've got to be kidding. Any parent even considering this can e-mail me and i will do it for half the price.
Good players get discovered because they are playmakers and have the physical assets to compete at the next level.

Beavers achieve a first after win at UW
For the first time ever the OSU Beavers won Pac-10 players of the Week for all 3 areas-Offense, Defense, and Special Teams.
If you can name another team that has had this happen to them let me know.
3 Pac-10 players of the week is pretty rare. It is quite an achievement for the players.
Serna, Doggett, and Stroughter were the winners. Here's the details.
Doggett has been impressive all season, he is a real surprise for the Beavers. Although he is undersized, he is lighting quick, and make plays. Play making is where it is at. Doggett has made a lot of big plays for the Beavers this year.

Beavers spank the Huskies
WOW! OSU's Defense played a spectacular game, and even with 3 turnovers on offense, the Beavers beat the shit out of the Huskies 27-17!
Matt Moore played his best game, with a couple unfortunate INT's. Sean Canfield came in the second quarter and promptly threw a pic. He looked uncomfortable to say the least.
Bernhard went off, and gained a boatload of yards in the first half. I'm too psyched to write more. I will analyze the game in later posts.
Doggett was unreal. Mad props to the D.

Riley is off his rocker...
Here are some excerpts from Riley's last press conference:
Is there tendency to give too much credit or blame to a QB for offensive performance?
“I think because of the quarterback thing, it’s pretty typical that the backup quarterback is the most popular guy around and all that. I think that probably can be summarized in the fact that it’s a team game and there are other factors. The one mistake Matt made in the red zone was throwing an interception. The other ones, there’s not much you can do about somebody else fumbling the ball.”
Did Moore show progress throwing downfield?
“There were some good things that way. He started to open up possibilities because we hadn’t had many of those, and we got some and we can hopefully build on those.”
Is there still a possibility of Sean Canfield in rotation?
“That is still all status quo. There won’t be any announcement about that.”

Beavers Lose to Washington State 13-6
During a beautiful autumn afternoon OSU showed they are a bottom tier Pac-10 team losing a sloppy home game to an average WSU squad. The defense played ok, but the offense was really inept. Unable to convert 3rd downs throughout, the Beavers still had chances to win the game late in the 4th quarter. Overall I'd grade their performance a D.
Here are some key stats:
Matt Moore was 18 of 34 for 223 yards and 1 pick. Key plays- 1st and 10 at the WSU 11, Moore tosses a pick into coverage. A demoralizing play for the Beav's. During the final drive Matt Moore got sacked on 4th on the WSU 33 with a couple minutes left. Just fucking lame.
OSU: 4 turnovers
OSU: 3-13 on 3rd downs, 0-1 on 4th down
It was the Cougars' first win in Corvallis in 10 years and their first win in October since 2003.
Yvenson Bernhard had 91 yards but for the second game in a row he fumbled on a critical play. I like Yvenson, but the fumbles are bullshit. Riley needs to pull his head out of his ass and start playing more players. Polk should get more carries.
The next game is against Washington(U-Dub). Washington barely lost to USC this weekend. The game is in Seattle.
May I be the first to point out that a brilliant little qb made his debut against washington? Maybe the same will occur for Canfield. The Beavers offense is not much better than the defense with Moore at the helm. That said, the coaching stafff deserves the majority of the blame for both sides of the ball. OSU's coaches are donkeys. Some of the calls on offense were really stupid.
oh well.....this is not looking good for OSU.

The Beavers are taking on the dangerous Washington State Cougars this Saturday. My prediction is that is will be a tight game that either team will win by a field goal. Or....it could be a blow out where Wazzu wins in a landslide. I've read the analysis of the game, and Wazzu does have better talent. But they are playing away from home, which is a major disadvantage for them. On the flip side OSU's stadium won't be sold out, and unless the Beavers start making plays early in the game-they will be a non-factor. OSU's defense is horrible, and unless their offense steps it up a notch it won't be a pretty game for the Beaver Nation.
BTW- I watched the Beavers All Access show on cable two nights ago. Riley looks like a tool in it. He is just too soft. His recruits are average at best. He could be a capable Offensive Coordinator somewhere, but he's not a Head Coach. They had a clip of his pregame speech for Cal, so lame....
